Long awaited personal time off

I can't believe how long it has been since the last time I took more than a week off for PTO. Maybe .. more than 3 years (visited SF/LA for a week back in 2012). Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh I finally have some time to breathe and think. It's amazing. At least for a couple of weeks.

I know that sounds pretty sad. Between getting my ass kicked in stand-up comedy nights in NYC bars, and then looking for financially viable ways to sustain myself while exploring my different dreams, and then then finally deciding to learn computer programming from scratch, I just didn't have any time nor money to take an extended amount of leisure time off for myself in the last 3 years.

I think I also felt like I didn't "deserve" leisure. I felt like "Oh I gotta do this and that, I gotta study this and study that and make it BIG before I can give myself permission to play and rest". No wonder I feel like my face got 10 years older in the last couple of years. I was pretty stressed out…

Life direction

Unless you start saying no to almost everything that does not fit in with your ultimate goal, you will always waver to the world's requests to you. Your life, your time and your brain will not be your own. When you start saying yes to the things that truly matter,  that is the way to mold your life to your desires. Ruthless focus and sacrifice. Focusing on the few but crucial products of your life. Standing firm despite the world's numerous temptations, requests and pitfalls ... Is a very important skill. Not very easy for obedient, people-pleasing personalities. Thus, it becomes ever more important to not just be "smart". The hand that guides the mind is even more important than the mind itself. No matter how smart you are, if you do not learn how to direct your life, you will be an "employee of the month" at best.
